iza’bis by city’super, the second restaurant from city’super, opened its doors in Times Square during January 2023. A cross between an izakaya and a European bistro, iza’bis by city’super presents more than 150 Japanese and European dishes crafted by chefs proficient in the culinary arts with quality ingredients sourced with care by city’super from all over the globe. After enjoying a delicious meal, diners can purchase a number of the recommended ingredients, some of which are exclusive to city’super, in the city’super supermarket, to replicate the taste at home and experience the unique city’super concept of “Buy & Dine” and “Dine & Buy”.

Great food is even better with fine wines as an accompaniment. One of the best things about iza’bis by city’super is its wine cellar (Wine Town), which houses more than 1,500 wines, sakes and spirits handselected from various parts of the world by city’super’s professional team of sommeliers. So gather with your friends and embark on a gastronomic gourmet wine journey at iza’bis by city’super.

city’super’s very own brand of French caviar

At iza’bis by city’super, diners can enjoy top-notch caviar produced on the production line of Petrossian, a century-old French brand, for city’super. The three different types of caviar on offer, namely Baeri (HK$598/10g), Ossetra (HK$588/10g) and Amursky (HK$568/10g) caviar, are sublime yet satisfying when paired with the traditional Russian blini and Charles Mignon Reserve Brut Premier Cru NV champagne.

Seasonal oysters from France paired with homemade toppings

iza’bis by city’super presents an exciting selection of nine types of in-season oysters from various parts of Europe, three of which are produced by the famous French oyster brand Les Parcs Saint Kerber. The company’s artisans combine traditional methods with innovation to produce excellent oysters that are appreciated around the world. To further enhance the tasting experience and to create multiple layers of flavour, iza’bis by city’super has specifically created four toppings, the European-style Shallot Sherry Vinaigrette and Cocktail Sauce and the Japanese-style Mozuku and Salmon Roe, which are sure to impress oyster connoisseurs.

Exclusive Yamagata A5 Grade Otome Ushi Wagyu Beef

Japanese Yamagata A5 Grade Wagyu Beef Yakiniku is served on an iron plate heated to a high temperature, allowing customers to cook the waygu beef according to their preference. Otome Ushi is scarce and precious, but city’super can provide diners with four of the best cuts of steak, ribeye, striploin, tenderloin and Chateaubriand, since it cooperates directly with Yamaguchi Livestock to purchase whole Otome Ushi cattle each month from Japan’s Yamagata Prefecture. Made with either ribeye or sirloin, the wholesome Japanese Yamagata A5 Grade Wagyu Beef Cutlet is a delicacy rarely encountered in Hong Kong and takes the recent trend of deep-frying steak to another pinnacle.

1,500 gourmet wines

At iza’bis by city’super, not only can foodies enjoy a series of delicacies prepared using the finest ingredients from all over the globe, they can also order from an extensive list of more than 1,500 wines, sakes and spirits selected by city’super’s team of experienced sommeliers at an attractive price of retail price plus 20%. One of the highlighted wines is Chateau de Lugey, Le Blanc des Cabanes, 2020 (HK$384/bottle, HK$80/glass). What makes this wine stand out is that it has been matured for six months under the sea of Bassin d’Arcachon on the French Atlantic coast. A static temperature and the absence of sunlight and oxygen work together to create the ideal natural wine cellar environment. During the ageing process, the bottles become adorned with a navy dress of small clams, baby oysters and seaweed. A blend of Sémillon and Sauvignon Blanc, the wine has straw yellow colour, a smooth texture and strong exotic-fruit aromas, with mineral and fruity flavours. With its comfy and relaxing vibes, iza’bis by city’super is the perfect spot for customers to enjoy wines.

Interior design

iza’bis by city’super offers 80 seats and is designed to create a relaxing European ambience. On some of the walls, there are photos and video clips showing highlights of the artisans’ exquisite skills that underlie each artisan brand, demonstrating city’super’s culinary philosophy and attitude of “craftsmanship with ingenuity”. The restaurant is connected to Wine Town, making it convenient for diners to select from the fine wines on offer.
