Summer Capsule 2023 and FENDI by Marc Jacobs

While presenting the Summer Capsule 2023, FENDI translates Marc Jacobs’ powerful creativity into new statements for the upcoming season playing with the codes of the FENDI Roma logo, the exaggerated, platformed and oversized silhouettes, the black and white colour palette with a fluoro touch, through ready-to-wear and accessories for Women’s and Men’s.

It all started in New York as part of the Baguette 25th Anniversary celebration, the FENDI by Marc Jacobs collection is a tribute to both the iconic Baguette bag and to the city in which its place in pop culture history was sealed, and it’s now ready to contaminate the FENDI world.

The Ready-to-Wear

In an amalgam of salon and street, uptown and downtown, Marc Jacobs takes contemporary motifs of modern life and melds them with a turn-of-the-century silhouette – the twentieth century that is.

In its sinuous lines and elongated forms, the ready-to-wear collection echoes New York’s ‘Gilded Age’ in shape and yet these are ‘everyday’ items of today made into part of the mythology of the city. Here, both fantasy and reality come into play.

Realised in a glittering, silvered, grey, white, fluoro yellow and black palette, the street is reflected in both colour and archetypal items. Broken denims are realised with acid and enzyme washes, and at times coated, the wide, elongated outlines of jeans pool at the wearer’s feet as do maxi jean skirts. In contrast short, sharp denim jackets are cut close to the chest, while cotton t-shirts balloon or are loose. Parachute silk tracksuits echo the pooling configuration, or as a skirt becomes part of an ‘S-bend’ past, replete with a train. A new bustle takes shape in the motif of the knotted sweater around the waist.

At the same time, utility is everywhere present, particularly with the multiple uses of pockets that are at their most pointed when they reflect the form and fastenings of the Baguette bag itself. These are found most prominently on long-line cotton jersey Baguette hoodies, where the front pocket takes on the full dimensions of the Maxi Baguette bag and even has THE BAGUETTE’written on it. Or on the multi-pocketed canvas cargo pants and jacket that feature FF logo buckles in silver hardware, accessorised with the multiple Nano Baguette utility belt.

The FENDI Roma logo reinterpreted by Marc Jacobs finds repeat form in close, sinuous, semi-transparent knits. Here, elongated sleeves have thumbs hooked through to achieve an elegant, glove-like fit. While the repeat logo pattern also features as a bold print in more casual attire to be easily shrugged on or off.

Drawing from the codes of the Marc Jacobs reinterpretation of FENDI, the Menswear proposal is the perfect expression of the playful and cool spirit of the collaboration. From denim to tailoring, neutral colours are highlighted by touches of fluoro yellow.

The FENDI Roma logo reinterpreted by Marc Jacobs is ever-present, fading through bleached denim ensembles or as a subtle jacquard on a dusty grey nylon polo shirt and trouser set. Lightweight sponge or cotton fabrics in chalk white feature the same lettering, while the Baguette pocket enlivens a hooded sweatshirt and a fluoro yellow t-shirt.
