Christmas is just over, and it is time to prepare for the Lunar New Year. On top of the festive New Year Chinese Casserole (Poon Choi), a series of New Year’s cakes are indispensable! For Hong Kongers, radish cake and rice cake (nian gao) are the must haves: the rich oily aroma of cured meat from radish cakes and the light and sweet chewiness of rice cakes, both have their characteristics. This year, restaurants are launching their homemade versions for the New Year, and there is always one suitable for yourself and your loved ones!

Crystal Jade – A fusion of Chinese and Japanese

This year’s Chinese New Year, Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao especially presents a variety of exquisite puddings and cakes, including ‘Turnip pudding with Conpoy’, made with dried Japanese conpoy, the finest quality Chinese preserved sausage and dried shrimp. Signature Taro Pudding, made with premium diced taro, dried Japanese conpoy, full of taro aroma. The other two Japanese-style delicacies, such as the Coconut Milk Pudding with Tokachi Azuki Beans, filled with the Tokachi Azuki red beans from Japan Hokkaido, are sweet but not greasy, aromatic and soft.

Michelin-starred Chinese New Year Puddings launched by Lei Garden this year is made with handpicked quality ingredients using their unique recipe made exclusively in Hong Kong. Jointly created by Chef Sam and Chef Ricky, Executive Chef of Art of Canton and of The Food Story, this year, Art of Canton presents a few Chinese New Year Puddings, including Turnip Cakes with Preserved Meat and Dried Scallop in original and spicy flavour, Taro Cake with Preserved Meat, Brown Sugar Coconut Sticky Rice Cake, and Golden Water Chestnut Cake. Using high-quality ingredients and our unique secret recipe, 100% made in Hong Kong exclusively. The highlight is Turnip Cake with Preserved Meat and Dried Scallop, made with 400g of hand-cut seasonal radish, premium preserved meat, dried scallop and dried shrimp.
