The new Orchidée Impériale Morpho-Protocol aligns with an in-depth understanding of skin’s morphology. Fusing its knowledge of cell longevity with advanced expertise in tissue structure, Guerlain highlights the importance of skin’s morphological bonds in maintaining visible youthfulness. Located in the basement membrane, these anchor points consist of protein structures known as hemidesmosomes. Acting like rivets, they deliver optimal cohesion between the epidermis on the surface and the deeper dermis.
Found in large numbers in young skin, hemidesmosomes contribute to skin’s elastic strength, in other words its ability to effectively face mechanical stress such as gravity. The problem is that the anchoring provided by the hemidesmosomes decreases with age. Skin’s elastic strength weakens, encouraging the appearance of the structural signs of ageing, which affects the face’s morphology, such as wrinkles, sagging facial contours or deeper cheek folds.

GUERLAIN’S COMMITMENT TO PROTECTING NATIVE ORCHIDS
TianZi exploratory reserve in Yunnan is one of the cornerstones of Guerlain’s commitment. For ten years, Guerlain has been involved in protecting orchids in their natural habitat, in one of their oldest birthplaces. Guerlain has renewed its partnership with TianZi nature reserve for a further ten years, thus protecting the orchids found at the heart of the Orchidée Impériale collection. This environmental sponsorship has made it possible to restore the natural habitat of orchids native to the region thanks to an ambitious reforestation programme.
Since 2011, 30 hectares of forest have already been rehabilitated with over 3,000 trees and almost 20,000 orchids throughout the reserve. By 2031, Guerlain and TianZi will double this surface area to reach a total of 60 hectares in which regenerative agriculture practices will be deployed. Through this sponsorship, Guerlain is also helping to develop the local economy, particularly in terms of employment.
